[Solstice]

Solstice chuckled slightly at the youngster's sudden interest. "No, it wasn't a fight." she responded, shaking her head. "Not in the traditional sence anyway. We were fighting the elements...a terrible storm blew up."

Her tone suddenly became more subdued. "Titus, you remember the story of Taiya that was going around the Pride about two or three months before we left? Taiya Avran, daughter of Swift and Xylie?" Surely he would remember...just as she had vowed to do, Sol had been sure to spread word of what the young girl had done that night, the sacrifice she had made to save her Pridemistress and friend, and the whole moorland had been talking about it. "That was the night. It was me, Taiya, and Vixan here, trying to survive in the worst storm I've ever seen. That's where I got my broken leg."

She let out a slight sigh as her mind drifted back to that fateful night. "We all helped each other as best we could...I'm sure that if any one of us hadn't been there, the other two would have been killed. Vixan saved me and Taiya by guiding us to a hiding spot from the rain, and by risking her life to ford an overflowing river...despite being from another Pride."

"Aye, that was a terrible night." Vixan looked solemnly at her foreclaws, remembering that terrible night and the pain it had caused, every detail fresh in her mind. Then she looked up at Solstice again.

"But you make me sound braver than I was," She said. "You and Taiya saved me, too...I think we both owe our lives to Taiya...may her soul rest peacefully." A tiny tear moved down her face, sliding over her beak, and she looked at Titius and Sanu.

"Never forget her. She gave her life to help us, both of us. Even me, whom she had only met that evenng. We could learn a lot form her selflessness. This is why I choose to stay nuetral in the new lands. There must be no more fighting."
